Day 20 Together, Apart

Day 20 Thoughts

A world, changed

Our people, distant,

Our humanity, Virtual:

To each other, we care,

We look out for,

We celebrate

From afar.

Together, apart.

About this post:

Be safe out there.  April is time for NaPoWriMo — National Poetry Writing Monthtry a bit of poetry and art to encourage others to be safe with each other. Something short. Something inclusive. Something of spring and hope. #NaPoWriMo/#GloPoWriMo

The Academy of Poets encourages us to write #shelterinpoems. Get some ideas there and share your own.

Tons of information can be found at Poets.orgNational Poetry Month and here: Virtual Programs.

National Council of Teachers of English also offers suggestions here.

Prompt:

Write a “Duality” poem:

Consider a topic. Think about its descriptions. Consider its duality, its possible oppositional effects.

Follow the pattern:

  • adjective noun, adjective describing those;
  • adjective noun, adjective describing those;
  • adjective noun, adjective describing those:
  • explain in six syllables,
  • explain in four syllables,
  • explain in seven syllables on two lines [4, 3 syllables]
  • opposite descriptions, separated by comma

As always: break the rules and pattern to fit the duality, emotions, and metaphor of your topic.
