Public Place
In a world that spins
where some lose and some win
fortunate are those who live
where public spaces
are places
to gather and play,
families and friends,
reunions and celebrations,
birthdays and graduations,
fun in the sun and snow,
splashes and boating,
sprinting fast and cruising slow
snorkel, fish, canoe, swim
summer places for every whim
and also those for winter’s dim-
zoom through snow
or down a slope
parks for us give us hope
everyone welcome
everyone plays
summer or winter
fall or spring:
out in nature
hear its song
feel its grace
understand its force
in your public place.
